Between The Vines are our Band Of The Month for September. We caught up with Rebecca and Kev for a chat.
Whittles: Where does the name ‘Between the Vines’ come from?
(Rebecca) I started to learn to play the guitar and together with Kev in 2014 we created ‘Between The Vines’, so named for our love of red wine.
Who are your main influences?
(Kev))The likes of Blackberry Smoke, Bonnie Raitt and Tom Petty amongst others. Rebecca is a singer/songwriter. She released her debut album, Crazy Love in 2014 with an eclectic mix of Hip Hop/ R&B and Dance, encompassing the unique sound of Electronic and Acoustic mix Her passion over the last 5 years has been for Country music, especially Country Rock. The more she listened and learned, the more she wanted to create and be part of that genre.
Have any of you played in any other bands?
(Kev) My earliest venture into professional playing was recording with a band called Blue Zone which featured a very young Lisa Stansfield. Since then he has recorded many albums with Lisa, including her two releases in 2018, Seven and Deeper.
I have also recorded and performed live with Pete Lockett, The Christians, The Animals, Proud Mary, Yazz and many more. I joined John Lee’s Barclay James Harvest in 1999, and Dare in 2008 and toured most parts of the World with these 2 bands.

Favourite gig & why
(Rebecca) We recently have supported artists Hannah Aldridge, Amy LaVere and Devon Worley from the USA at gigs in Manchester and have also performed at Nashville Sessions in York.
There were also plans this year for the band to perform on stage at both FSA Festival and Cambridge Rock Festival; however, these have been postponed for obvious reasons until 2021.
Did you do any live streaming during lockdown?
(KEV)To keep busy during the lockdown Between The Vines streamed live shows every Sunday at 8 pm on the band’s Facebook page, to help build their audience and fan base, as well as keeping in touch with their friends.
Finally, do you have a message for the Whittles crowd, what can they expect from Saturdays gig?
(Kev) Fronted by Rebecca’s raw rocking lead vocals, who also plays acoustic guitar, Between The Vines play original Southern Rock style songs. I play the drums, the line-up is perfectly completed by brothers Dave and Norman Higginson on guitar and bass.
If you like the Southern rock sound with rocky gritty female vocals, then Between The Vines is the band for you!
Join us for a fantastic evening of live music and support this fantastic venue.
